"K-Def‘s remix of ‘Stakes Is High’ kicks in the hardest with banging drums and the remarkable use of the Ahmad Jamal sample. Of course it includes the infamous ‘Vibes… Vibrations’ by James Brown as well. Host K-Murdock‘s track is more subtle with an ambient touch, reminiscent to the mellow style on ’The Scenic Route’ by his hip hop group Panacea.

On the other hand, we have DJ Stitches (remember Class A Felony?) & BP. The obscure movie samples on their remake of ‘Millie Pulled A Gun On Santa’ are explicit and give this version an extra playful dimension. For me this was the dopest release from Appletree Records, which was a label for hip hop, soul & jazz from Holland. Too bad they had to quit because of financial problems. Their stuff was so hard to find in stores it didn't come as a surprise. I believe there was only 1 store in Amsterdam that sold this.

Really great hip hop with lots of soul and jazz influences. Must-have!

Yes, I believe this is one of the first appearances from Aesop Rock, and that is due to the fact that The Controls are produced by Dub-L producer also produced Ace Rock's early material along with blockhead, explains the collab. This is sick even with out Aesop being on it, while vocalist Ann Colville is hunting and under-rated Dj Js-One provides the cuts this album is A must listen almost 10 years old !

Nujabes, produced 80% of this wonderful album, dont miss out on Pase Rock's (FIVE DEEZ) only solo album that was released in Japan. Im not feeling his new stuff, as he is involved with many artitsts, like spank rock and santigold, i dont understand the hype with those artists, but then again im really not into club or dancehall music, seems to be the direction that Five Deez went on their last two albums. Its an original sound but i perfer the early works. This album is simply, fly to def.
